ABSTRACT

The Province of West Java (Jawa Barat) is also known as Pasundan (land of the Sundanese). The province, with a total area of 35,378 sq km, lies in the western part of the island of Java, bordered by Central Java (Jawa Tengah) to the east. The Special Capital District of Jakarta is an enclave at the western end of the north coast. In 2000 the western third of the province, the tip of the island of Java, was formed into a separate province, Banten, which therefore forms a western land border.
