ABSTRACT
Right-wing libertarian party, f. 1943 by Alexander Bustamante in alliance with the affiliate, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union. The JLP won a majority of seats in parliament in the first elections held under full adult suffrage in 1944 and was in power at independence in 1962. It is committed to free enterprise in a mixed economy and to close co-operation with the USA.
