ABSTRACT

Ships of all kinds, for example, were instrumental in informing man (sic) of the vastness of his (sic) domain. They permitted different cultures to meet and cross-fertilise one another. The seafarer's ships and all his artefacts, his myths and legends, effectively translated his lore from generation to generation. And they transformed the unconscious of those who stayed on land as much as those who actually sailed (Weizenbaum, 1976:278).
