ABSTRACT

The needs of young children with disabilities are complex and multifaceted. Meeting these needs requires the support and involvement of a community of people. Parents cannot do it alone; neither can teachers or doctors or therapists. A variety of disciplines and agencies must come together to form a co-operative team if the best interests of children are to be protected. This chapter, focusing on children as part of a community, includes a discussion of children’s rights within the community and the formation of teams to protect those rights.
