ABSTRACT

NĀGĀRJUNA (100-165): The Indian Buddhist philosopher who founded the Middle Doctrine School (Mādhyamika, or Doctrine of the Middle Position), one of the chief schools of Mahayana Buddhism. A Brahmin from South India, Nāgārjuna taught at the Buddhist university in Bihar, North India, Nālanda, as well as at the Nāgārjunikonda in Andhra Pradesh.
