ABSTRACT
In the preceding chapter we presented a substantial body of evidence in support of the prosodic construct ‘syllable’. The thrust of the argument hinged on the identification of this construct and its subconstituents as the domain of a variety of phonological processes and phonotactic constraints. The question which now arises is whether the inventory of prosodic constituents is exhausted by the syllable.
