ABSTRACT

This book set out to address the twin themes of the conflict of public policy objectives relating to the competition for land between landscape preservation and rural housing provision, and of differential access to rural housing among competing groups, and how these distributional outcomes are modified by policy. In addressing these two themes, perhaps inevitably, other concerns have also emerged and avenues for further research have become apparent. It is the purpose of this concluding chapter to attempt to pull together these various strands, offering some conclusions relevant to the objectives of this book, in both instrumental and methodological terms. This should help to inform future research into rural housing markets, both in terms of empirical concerns and in terms of methodology, as well as perhaps assisting in the formulation of policy.
