ABSTRACT

Dedans—translated into English as Inside—is Hélène Cixous’ first full-length work of fiction. Published in 1969, the same year as her doctoral thesis L’Exil de James Joyce ou l’art du remplacement—The Exile of James Joyce or the Art of Replacement, and preceded only by the collection of short stories Le Prénom de Dieu—“The First Name of God,” it won the French literary Médicis prize for that year.
