ABSTRACT

La Jeune Née—The Newly Born Woman, coauthored with Catherine Clement and published in 1975, is perhaps the text by Cixous most widely known in the English-speaking world. It contains Cixous’ ground-breaking essay “Sorties”—translated into English as “Sorties: Out and Out: Attacks/ Ways Out/Forays”—in which she examines the phallocentric enterprise and sketches an alternative possibility for self/other relations.
