ABSTRACT
Of course how we treat individual animals is a moral matterstarving your dog is morally blameworthy (to say the least). But I want in this chapter to show how caring for animals in another way is also a moral matter-caring for animal species (and for individual animals, of which species consist) as remarkable things (for want of a better word). We will see how caring for various kinds of precious thing is a moral matter, and then note how animals are very striking examples of precious things.
