ABSTRACT
The 1984-5 coal dispute was one of the most bitterly contested strikes in British industrial relations history, involving violent industrial confrontation on picket lines in the North of England, the Midlands, Scotland and South Wales. The most notorious confrontation took place around a coking plant at Orgreave, near Sheffield.
