The Court of Appeal

Appeals against convictions or sentences given in a lower court are heard by a higher court – so anyone convicted and sentenced by a magistrates’ court can appeal to the crown court; and anyone convicted and sentenced by the crown court can appeal to the Court of Appeal. The Court of Appeal is staffed by the most senior judges, and the decisions these judges make influence and form the law of the country.
