ABSTRACT
We have heard a great deal about evaluation and assessment in recent years and the Education Reform Act (1988) has built into it a requirement for testing children at 7, 11, 14 and 16. It would be easy to forget that we all evaluate all kinds of things throughout our lives and teachers have always evaluated the work of their children. The change we are experiencing is towards more systematic and regular evaluation with outcomes available to parents and others.
