ABSTRACT
Energy-efficient urban design is not complete without consideration of urban transportation. City form, its spatial features, density, activity mix and its historical circumstances all contribute to the traffic ills of a given city, but climatic suitability of transport facilities underpins the energy requirements for urban transportation. Very real possibilities exist in the realm of energy-efficient and thermally comfortable urban transportation, especially in tropical cities. Yet current development ethos ignores these possibilities.
