ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an overview of the role of ICT in relation to mathematics teaching and learning. The TTA requirements of 04/98 and 10/01 for ICT in Initial Teacher Training are outlined as a starting point for focusing on the discussion of the logistics of using ICT in the classroom. Ideas for the types and ranges of ICT suitable for use in the maths classroom are described in this chapter. However, more detail of their actual application is offered in Chapter 9. The chapter concludes by highlighting the use of the internet for teaching and also for creating resources.
