ABSTRACT
The purpose of support as it emerges from my research is to enable teachers and pupils to behave towards each other with respect and civility, to allow teachers to assist effectively in the intellectual, social and personal development of children and young people, and to provide an ethos in which teachers can operate according to their own personal and professional values and teaching objectives.
