ABSTRACT

The size of paper normally used for dissertations is known as A4 (210 mm x 297 mm) and is used vertically (sometimes referred to as 'portrait'). The paper should be of good quality and with sufficient opacity to ensure the print does not show through. Only one side of the paper is used. Occasionally, an item to be included in either the text or as an appendix, such as a table or diagram, which cannot be reduced, requires a page size larger than A4. To avoid being cut during the binding stage of the dissertation, the fold must not be more than 195 mm from the left-hand edge of the paper. Similarly, the folded section edge should not be less than 40 mm from the left-hand edge of the paper to avoid being bound in.
