ABSTRACT
In an era of mass participation in higher education the issues around admissions are not about accessing higher education, but about accessing a particular course at a particular institution. Over the last few years university admissions have become a hot political issue both in terms of ‘dumbing down’ of access to higher education in general and in terms of equal opportunities in relation to access to ‘elite’ institutions.
