ABSTRACT

Inspection is not one of the challenges of initiating education for active citizenship. It is rather a matter of providing OFSTED with the relevant evidence that the challenges are being tackled effectively. Of course, one of the reasons behind making citizenship education a statutory requirement was that it would guarantee that the subject would be taken seriously. In other words it would be inspected throughout the school and assessed at key stage 3. The evidence at the time of writing is that OFSTED is committed to the spirit of the Order as well as to the specific requirements of the programme of study.
