Making a major shift to delivery online or via multimedia almost invariably requires a substantial investment in ICT infrastructure. The types of improvements that may need to be made include: acquisition of servers to hold and deliver courseware; installation of new

cabling and communication equipment to provide increased access or increased capacity; acquisition and installation of more up-to-date workstations for staff; acquisition of site licences for applications software for staff and students; acquisition of licences for software required for the delivery of courses (eg

integrated electronic learning environment software, conferencing software, computer-assisted assessment software, streaming audio or streaming video software).
