ABSTRACT
It is therefore absurdly reductionist to define the goal of translation studies as the mere formulation of “rules” for translating. To do so is to deny not only the complexity of the phenomenon under discussion, but also t he many ways in which a less reductionist approach to it can help shed light on central issues in the study of culture and acculturation.
