ABSTRACT
The law stated and applied in the last paragraph of the previous section (excised from this edition) is not an empirical proposition, and yet not an immediate law of essence. Like many similar laws, it permits of a priori proof. Nothing can show up the worth of a strict statement more clearly than the possibility of giving a deductive proof of such propositions as are familiar to us in another guise. In view of the great scientific interest that the constitution of a deductive theoretical transformation claims in every field, we wish to linger here a little.
