ABSTRACT

In the course of your work as an assistant you are likely to come across a range of children's behaviour which you might find puzzling, challenging, saddening or maddening! In order to help us to understand what makes children behave well or badly in the school environment we need first to understand something about what causes particular behaviour patterns to develop in the first place. We can start to do this by considering the development of both normal and abnormal behaviour patterns in the young child.
