A Warm-up activities book
Many leaders and therapists like to start group sessions with some kind of warmup to get people going. This can be a physical/verbal activity or a simple painting activity. The first will help people to get into contact with each other and the second will help them over the feelings of not knowing how to start to paint. Physical warm-ups involving touching (e.g. back rubs) may not be appropriate for some groups: for example, where participants may have suffered abuse in the past; where participants have disabilities; where it is not an acceptable part of that group’s culture; where a group is meeting for the first time. It is best to check with someone who knows the client group and what is acceptable.
