ABSTRACT

Denmark was transformed from a well-developed, village-and craft-based agricultural society into a modern, international, industrially successful urban society in the post-war era. House-building reflected that growth and change, with a high output right up to 1985. Both social and private housing grew rapidly, as Table 32.1 shows. The proportion of total output contributed by social housing varied widely, as Figure 32.1 illustrates, being lowest when total production was highest. Tenure changed significantly, away from private and local authority renting in favour of nonprofit, owneroccupied and co-operative ownership, as Table 32.2 shows.
