ABSTRACT

Think of all the big stories of recent years and the chances are you’ll be able to envisage newspaper front pages, ranging from the jaw-dropping images of 9/11 and the London Tube and bus bombings to the far more ludicrous ‘Freddie Starr ate my hamster’ (Sun, 13 March 1986). But move inside the newspaper or magazine, and you’ll soon see the value of features spreads, where the big issues are dissected minutely for the reader.
