ABSTRACT

From the standpoint of social spread of AIDS phenomenon, current models are inadequate to address the overall problem of sexual behaviour related to risk of HIV infection and all the various factors that enter into play. A new interpretive theory that could adequately confront the issue should involve a two-pronged approach. The first is to identify the areas where the Health Belief Model (HBM) can be criticized and to correct them. The second is to make an empirical study in order to pinpoint any essential aspects of the ongoing processes (Peto, et al., 1992).
