ABSTRACT
Urban policy has become increasingly complex, faced with many diverse needs, pressure on resources and expectations that outcomes are measured and evaluated. Research is therefore an important component of good urban policy. This chapter reviews its role and how it is applied in practice. It considers both quantitative research and the emerging contribution of qualitative research. Finally, the chapter discusses some of the issues which surround research in urban policy.
