ABSTRACT
The term ‘gender’ is not only about biological differences between men and women but also about what-in social terms-it means to be male or female (Dowling, 1998). Gender applies to men as well as women, and home-ownership is based on the reproduction of traditional views of femininity and masculinity (Connell, 1995). The term is therefore a component of identity as well as synonymous with sexuality.
