ABSTRACT

How best can teachers and teaching assistants work together in classrooms? Given the continuing increase in the numbers of teaching assistants to be found in schools, there would seem to be a need to better understand what is in fact a new form of team teaching. In this article Hilary Cremin (senior lecturer at Oxford Brookes University), Gary Thomas (professor of education Birmingham University), and Karen Vincett (senior educational psychologist, Essex LEA) report on research that examined three approaches to classroom teamwork. These are termed ‘room management’, ‘zoning’ and ‘reflective teamwork’.
