ABSTRACT

Making provision for the development of staff is an investment in the human capital of an enterprise. The sought after return on investment in this case was the successful implementation of an educationally advanced curriculum for pre-registration nursing programmes that promised positive academic and professional benefits over the short, medium and long terms. Naturally, where there is a ‘high payoff potential…it is important to design and implement an effective [staff develop-ment] programme’ (Hitchcock et al. 1993: 295).
