ABSTRACT

Two important techniques available to the industry for the purposes of adjusting or amending either its practices or its image are those of environmental auditing and EIAs. Goodall describes an environmental audit as:

a management tool providing a systematic, regular and objective evaluation of the environmental performance of the organisation, its plant, buildings, processes and products. In essence, environmental audit and EIA have the same goals and are complementary tools in the struggle to achieve sustainable tourism.
