However, the above is only context for the importance of the communications revolution to the reader. The revolution has also brought with it a realization that corporate communications activities are an integral and important concern for organizations. Management is comprehending that organizations need to be engaged in an ongoing dialogue with a wide spectrum of constituents both within and outside the corporation. All too often this has been accompanied by the painful realization by senior managers when confronted by a cataclysm that there is fragmentation of responsibility, function, and message vis-à-vis their organization’s communications.
