ABSTRACT
We have given considerable space in Chapter 3 to the detailed implications of the regulations and guidelines for the compilation and circulation of the appraisal statement. It is worthwhile, we feel, briefly to summarise the key issues before we go on to consider an issue that was not apparent in the early days of appraisal training but which loomed large as appraisers now found themselves faced with the task of writing appraisal statements.
