Whole group line delivery: what is Jack's mother's concern? How might she have said these words to show she is desperate? Make a hand gesture to indicate when to say the line all together. Try the line at different volumes by moving your arm up for loud and down for soft. What gesture may she have used? All try pointing a finger with the line. What do we understand by this? (Giving clear instruction to Jack.) All try holding up hands against her head. (She is desperate for Jack to get this right.) Try these lines loudly and softly and see what difference it makes. Some children may wish to deliver the line with a gesture of their own. They are encouraged to see how the same lines can communicate different meanings. How about: • As if she is weak with hunger? And the gestures? • As if she is a very strong and powerful woman ? • As if she is always nagging Jack?
