The psychodynamic perspective of behaviour locates the ongm of the maladaptive behaviour in the unconscious functioning of the psyche. Due to considerations of volume, this chapter is restricted to outlining a limited number of concepts derived from the psychoanalytical approach. Our intention is to give the reader an introduction to the complex area of psychoanalytical theory as it relates to emotional and behavioural difficulties in the learning situation.
