It can be used as a subject, predicative or object-also, and this is very important, as the object of a preposition. Examples of gerunds as objects of adjectives are found in 11.9.

It can form a plural: his comings and goings, sayings and doings; this is especially frequent when a gerund has acquired a completely concrete signification and thus is more or less detached from the verb from which it is formed: buildings, drawings, savings, eavings, blessings.
