ABSTRACT

In Chapter 13, I discussed justifications of intervention in the suicidally self harming acts of others that referred to the autonomy of the protagonist. I want, finally, to address what I consider to be the strongest justification of all for interference in the suicidal act of another person, that to do so amounts to self defence. The justification of interference on the grounds that it is necessary to defend others from harm is closely related and in my view, only marginally less strong.
