ABSTRACT
The banshee or supernatural death-messenger has been part of Irish folk belief for centuries. Perceived as a female spirit, she is said to cry when the death of a member of an Irish family is imminent. Regarded as a family messenger of death, belief in the banshee remains relevant at the crisis of death for many Irish people at home and abroad.
