ABSTRACT

The need for participation in Citizenship provokes a range of responses from schools and teachers. Some observe that they are doing so already – which in many cases they are, as the growing number of school councils and other extra-curricular activities reflects. Others find it more difficult to deal with in the context of Citizenship. Whatever the stage of development, schools need to establish ways in which all young people can participate, reflect on the participation and have their achievements recorded, as required by the Programme of Study.
