ABSTRACT

Role play asks students to step into someone else’s shoes and argue an issue from their point of view. It immerses them in the issue and helps them to develop their cognitive understanding as well as their feelings and values. As a teaching strategy, it fits directly into the Citizenship Programme of Study that expects students at Key Stage 3 to ‘use their imagination to consider other people’s experiences and be able to think about, express and explain views that are not their own’.
