ABSTRACT
Rashid has learnt English at school. His teacher speaks only English but finds that she can now hold quite a fluent conversation with him. Rashid can recognise several words in reading but is not progressing as well as the other children in the class. His teacher makes observations as she reads and writes with him, and does some of the Phonics checks for Stage 1.
