ABSTRACT
This year I have been teaching Year 2 children in an inner-city school. On checking their progress I found that six of the children were still ‘working towards level 1’ in National Curriculum reading and writing. I decided to devise an intensive programme for them which could, as far as possible, be carried out with the group as a whole.
