ABSTRACT
This chapter explores language use in the context of ethnicity. We will look mainly at how language is used to represent ethnicity and at some of the consequences of this. We will also examine how different groups use language as an important marker of their ethnic identity. Before tackling these issues, however, we need to first address the question of what ethnicity means to people.
