ABSTRACT
Unlike the piano industries of Paris and London, Viennese piano building does not seem to have come from a strong tradition of harpsichord building. Whereas English and French GRAND PIANOS show survivals of harpsichord construction techniques even in the late nineteenth century, Viennese construction was conceived in terms of piano requirements from the late eighteenth century onwards.
