ABSTRACT

Johann Christoph Zumpe was a German craftsman thought to have been born in Saxony in 1726 who died in London in December 1790. He was originally trained as a cabinetmaker, but during the time of the Seven Years' War, Zumpe moved to England as one of the so-called TWELVE APOSTLES, arriving in London sometime in the 1750s. He worked for a while with the harpsichord maker BURKAT SHUDI but in 1761 started up on his own at 7 Princes Street, Hanover Square.
