ABSTRACT

The inner workings of the human brain have been a source of both fascination and mystery for as long as human brains have strived to understand themselves. In just considering “simple” or routine tasks, like remembering your address or deciding what you’d like to have for lunch, the brain is a marvel. When you go beyond the simple tasks to consider the ability of a gifted musician to play from memory thousands of notes on a piano or a guitar in a specific sequence and rhythm while coordinating the necessary finger movements at lightning speeds, or consider the mastery of complex and abstract principles and formulas of physics and chemistry in order to place a human being in space and bring him or her back again safely, the talents of the brain are truly spectacular.
