ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3 of this study, we have been concerned-among other things —with universal effects that occur in pro-headed amount constructions (that is, realis FRCs) in particular with constraints on Pied-Piping. In this chapter, we will address certain Kase-interaction effects which occur in headed [+COIND] constructions, and which are subject to systematic cross-linguistic variation. Our primary concern will be with Kase-matching phenomena in FRCs, especially with the characterization of their systematic cross-linguistic variation. For the sake of completeness, however, we will also address, albeit less thoroughly, other Kase-interaction processes which share a number of important properties with Kase-matching.
