ABSTRACT

Aglietta (1979) is a key early text on regulation theory but can be heavy going. Much more accessible are the reviews by Dunford (1990), Hirst and Zeitlin (1991) and Jessop (1991). The reader edited by Amin (1994) is also an excellent introduction. Fordism and its problems are reviewed with admirable clarity in Allen (1988) and Meegan (1988). See also Allen (1992) for a clear discussion of postFordism. The single most useful source on regulation theory and the welfare state is the set of readings compiled by Burrows and Loader (1994). Useful critiques of regulation theory can be found in Clarke (1988), Sayer (1989), Tickell and Peck (1992) and Williams et al. (1987).
