ABSTRACT

What is an elementary school counseling program and what purpose does it serve? Is there a real need for elementary school counseling programs in today’s schools? These questions, and ones like them, have been asked by school professionals, parents, and community leaders for the past 35-plus years (Herr, 2001; Whiston, 2002). In the pages that follow, we will address these questions and provide overwhelming support for elementary school counseling programs and the positive impact they can have on enhancing children’s lives and building strong caring communities.
